Funny Observations from Princess Sparkley

So it's warmed up some (not necessarily this past week though), and even if it hadn't Princess Sparkley is pretty sure that it's ready to be summer, or at least spring. She found in her closet some of her summer clothes that I'd folded away to make room for winter ones. Last Saturday she came out dressed in stretchy capri pants from last summer and said, "Hey, these used to be longer." It was so funny because she was right. You can see on her THIGH where the capris were faded from her KNEES last summer. Pretty funny.

"I wish [Baby X] had toothpaste because his breath almost always smells like spit-up." - Princess Sparkley

Big Eyes

When asked who he looks like, I tend to answer that he has Princess Sparkley's eyes and Buddy's nose, mouth and chin. I'm not sure entirely... but he definitely looks like they both did as babies. I remember Princess Sparkley's giant eyes, especially starring at me, wide awake in the middle of the night when she was brand new. And I remember people commenting on her big eyes a lot. Maybe they did with Buddy as well. I just don't remember. But with Baby X I get a lot of comments on his big eyes. Then we discovered if we blew raspberries at him his eyes got even bigger. And in trying to get his attention on the fan above our bed, we discovered that when we turn the lights on and off his eyes go from regular to huge, regular to huge. Here's my attempt to capture it on film.

Funny things Buddy's been saying

"Wouldn't it be funny if a rocket ship went past Jesus and he saw it." -Buddy

"Wouldn't it be funny if Jesus had a rocket ship and Satan had a rocket ship and Jesus crashed his rocket into Satan's. Isn't that funny? The end." - Buddy

Cute in Blues and Browns

I have this penpal Catherine from Virginia who I met through a chain letter... 17, 18 years ago. I was the person she had to send a postcard too. She asked a question and put her return address on the postcard. I answered her question and we've been writing ever since. We've never met in real life. We exchanged letters for years, then graduated to emails. She married and has two adorable little girls and lives in Maryland now. She sent this adorable outfit by Carters for Baby X and it matched perfectly with the "My Little Blankie" and brown sheep that the Grandma who says "uh oh spaghetti ohs" sent. So we did a mini photo shoot. :)

Go Jayhawks!!

B and the kids made sure we were all wearing our Jayhawk apparel for Saturday's and tonight's game.

Buddy's Train Tracks

Buddy's preschool last week had a talent show. Buddy decided his talent was building train tracks. We tried to talk him into dancing to his favorite song, but he didn't want to. Here he is with the train track he built all on his own(except the 8 by his right foot) this week.

Fish

I've been promising the kids we'd get fish for a long long long time. So, we finally got them Friday. Introducing the newest members of our family. Drum roll please...

Ice Cream Alice [our last name]

[Buddy's real first name] St. Louis Race Car Macaroni and Cheese [our last name]

*Update: Since posting this earlier today, we have discovered that Ice Cream Alice has passed away. Any advice on how to keep Bettas alive.

Chewing on Zebee's Ear

I bought this Zebra on clearance at the Gap Outlet when I was PregO with Princess Sparkely. She loved it as a baby... I think due to the contrast in colors. So we've kept it around as a newborn toy. Princess Sparkley thought it was fabulous when we set it on Baby X's lap and he ended up sucking on it's ear. Both older siblings are getting pretty impatient that Baby X doesn't "play" yet. I got out all the baby toys before he was born to clean them and they've been so excited for the day he actually plays with them. Every once in awhile when he's unattended I come back to find him completely surrounded by a pile of toys... and he's completely oblivious to them.

2 Month Check-up

Today was Baby X's two month check-up with his pediatrician even though technically, he was 9 weeks old on Saturday, and two month's last Wednesday.

Weight: 11 lbs. 12 oz.
Height: 24 inches
Head: 16 inches

This puts him in the 50th percentile for weight. 50-75th for height (I think) and up from 2nd% to 3rd% for height to weight ratio. She said I can keep fortifying his breast milk and formula to make it higher calorie, but that what I'm doing, just a few bottles fortified a day, should be plenty... not every bottle like before.

He's still spitting up a ton, even with the prescription she gave us last time for something for reflux so she's giving us a stronger prescription. Hopefully this works. She says sometimes nothing will work and a baby just has to outgrow it. 95% do by 6 months. So, either this new prescription works... or we're dealing with spit-up everywhere until hopefully only 6 months.

She was impressed with his weight gain and how alert and watchful he was.

He's all about his hands lately. They are always all over his face, plucking his binky out, being explored by his mouth, etc.

Cardiologist visit - March 26th

Baby X had his second post hospital visit with his cardiologist Wednesday. Everything seems to be fine. At each appointment they've done an EKG and an echocardiogram. His doctor says everything looks like it did just after the procedure. He said we might need to do a balloon valvuloplasty again in infancy. Since babies grow so rapidly up until about 4-6 months he'll still need to see us rather frequently until Baby X is about 6 months old. Last time there was 2 1/2 weeks between appointments, this time he said 4-6 weeks and scheduling wise, it'll be almost the full 6 weeks. He was glad to see how big Baby X has been getting. He seems like a chub to us now, but I typed his new weight from this visit (11 lbs. 10 oz) into a growth chart calculator online and he's in the 25-50th percentile. So not as huge as he seems. :) And he's 23.4 inches tall, which also isn't as tall as we'd suspected.

He goes to his regular pediatrician on Monday for his two month check-up.

More Videos...

... this time with sound. Isn't he cute??
My apologies to everyone who isn't a grandparent for boring you with all these videos.

Potty Training Success... nearly

In the past 5 days Buddy has pooped in the potty three times, and only in a diaper/pull-up twice (once he woke up at 3 AM to tell me he was poopy and his body felt like it needed his music back on). Yippee!
