Big boy in overalls

I'm sad because a lot of the 3-6 month clothes we had for Buddy worked for a California summer. But I feel bad dressing Baby X in them for a Kansas summer. But every once in awhile I can't resist the cute little clothes. So here is Baby X in Buddy's little soccer overalls. I love them. There are matching socks with soccer balls on them too. Baby X really liked those.

Blastball

This was the 2nd to last week of Blastball.

The kids are doing great and really loving it. Buddy has been shy and slow but warms up more and more each week. This time he even yelled "blast!" once. At first he made B do it. Then he'd whisper it.

I sewed a half apron.

From a pattern found here, I sewed this reversible half apron. It's the first time I've ever sewn anything from an actual pattern.

Baby X = Mary

Princess Sparkley hollered to us the other that Baby X was wrapped up in his blanket and he looked like Mary. This is what we found. He'd been rolling around on the floor on his blanket, had ahold of a corner of the blanket and rolled. This is how the roll ended.

Big Train

Since B collects counties, we had to take a slightly longer way home the other day so Baby X could get a new county in June, so he has a new county for each month he's been alive so far. And we were next to train tracks most of the time and passed this train with 5 engines and 95 cars, so we pulled up on a side farm road and watched it pass, waved to the engineer and he blew his whistle and waved back. Then we raced further along so we'd be at the train crossing we needed to cross so we could see it again. As you can see, it made Buddy's day.

Fancy Nancy

We love these Fancy Nancy books by Jane O'Conner. When I say "we," I should specify that while we all like them, it's mostly Princess Sparkley that LOVES them. Today, her plan was apparently to dress fancy, like Fancy Nancy. So, here's the side by side comparison. I was laughing because we just watched 13 Going On 30 last night and Princess Sparkley looked like all of the girls in the 1980s shots.

My birthday cake

I made Strawberry Shortcake for my birthday cake not realizing when PS asked me what it was that she'd automatically think of this Strawberry Shortcake.

PS, the weirdo, had hers without the strawberries. Just "angel cake" and whipped cream. So plain. I don't understand her and strawberries... they are SOO YUMMY!!!

Zoo

For my first birthday I went to the Santa Barbara Zoo, and for my 30th I took the kids to the Topeka Zoo. They are both about the same size although Santa Barbara might be slightly larger.

The best part of the zoo for Buddy... the train. And it's not even in the zoo. It's part of the park, Gage Park outside the zoo. And is only $1 per person (2 and under free) for about a mile train ride around the park... including a tunnel and railroad crossings. Buddy was so excited. We never do the train at the St. Louis zoo because it's like $5 a person. So this is awesome. Afterwards he asked if some time when we are in Topeka can we just drive through Gage Park because he wants to be one of the cars that has to stop at the railroad crossing.

21 weeks

Baby X in the morning

This is what I wake up to in the morning these days. He's been sleeping from 8 or 9 PM until somewhere between 4 and 6 AM, then going back to sleep for a few more hours... usually 7 or 8 AM. The other morning I woke up because he was giggling. He'd rolled over onto his tummy (in his swaddle me baby burrito bundler thingy) and his face was right at his crib mirror so he was giggling at himself in the mirror. So cute! And if he spots me sitting on the bed he gives me big smiles.

I just read The Kite Runner, which actually has just a little to do with kites, but I did learn some about kite flying, etc. And here are the kids flying their kites on a slightly breezy, way too hot day.

Buddy's Twin

Buddy is convinced that when Baby X is bigger, we're not going to be able to tell the two of them apart. He seems to be a bit worried about this. And while Baby X's ultrasound was a definite twin to baby Buddy, in real life I don't think they look that identical. Just like brothers.
