Cuddle Time with Grandma L
Mystery Baby clasps his hands together a lot now and "chews" on them. The other day, Buddy said, "He looks like an evil genius."

Shenandoah Colors
10/16
On Tuesday, we drove up to Shenandoah National Park to see the fall colors. We also saw a bear!! We drove along Skyline Drive, starting in Front Royal, got to Matthew's Arm Campground and turned around to head back. At one point, a car was stopped with its hazard lights on going the other direction. We couldn't figure out why until we went past and saw the black fuzzy blur in the bushes on our side of the road. A bear! We U-turned and tried to spot it again (only half of us saw it) but it has made its way too far away from the road.
Mystery Baby has a love/hate relationship with the car. If we can manage to get him to sleep, he sleeps wonderfully. But most of the time, he just screams. On this longer trip, we finally got him to sleep and he stayed in the car for the photo ops, hence the photo of him sleeping in his car seat.

Blessing Day
B blessed Mystery Baby today. In attendance, the P family from Richmond and both sets of grandparents. Participating in the blessing were B, both grandpas, Uncle G and our friend S. J.
8 weeks
Mystery Baby turned eight weeks old on Friday, October 12. Here he is, a day later on his 8 weeks and 1 day birthday.
He went in for his two month check up on his eight week b-day. Here are his stats:
length: 23 inches (50-75%)
weight: 12 lbs. 13.5 oz. (75-90%)
head: 40 1/2 (50-75%)
The doctor said his head control was at almost four months. He smiles. He sort of coos and makes vowel sounds. He sort of giggles. He almost never lays his head down if you are holding him upright. He'll follow you around the room with his eyes. He likes patty cake and sometimes it seems like he's anticipating the fun part that he knows comes next and smiles ahead of time. The kids still love him, even Buddy asked to hold him the other day. He has a long, loud screamy part in the middle of each day when he is over tired. He seemed like he was getting nearer to sleeping through the night but that was followed by horrible nights of waking up every 2 1/2 to 3 hours. He has long periods when he'll just lay on his blanket and stare at toys or walls, etc.
About Eight Weeks
Mystery Baby turned 8 weeks old on Friday (8/12). Here are some pictures from a few days before his 8 week birthday.
GOAL!!! x 9
Saturday was a long day of soccer games. Princess Sparkley's game was first. She's doing great.
Then Little Guy's game. Halfway through Little Guy's game, B and Buddy had to head over to Buddy's field for his game. That's when Little Guy started scoring goals. First he scored one goal (only his second or third in a game all season). Then while I was texting B to let him know, he immediately scored again. Then again and again and again. Once he got the hang of getting the ball and breaking away from the other kids, he was on a roll. He ended up scoring nine goals. Nine goals!!!! So many that I just got the camera ready to film and captured a couple.

Kid created worksheets
Princess Sparkley wrote a math worksheet for Little Guy the other day. In return, Little Guy created a panda math worksheet for her. He sounded out the words on his own.

Cinnamon Roll Factory
My tradition, since I went to college, is to make cinnamon rolls for General Conference. While the kids were watching Conference, Buddy drew these pictures.
Sleeping
So I don't forget, Mystery Baby had his best sleeping night ever last night. He ate at 7pm then slept from about 8:30 until about midnight. Ate, went back to sleep and slept until 5:30am. This is huge for him. He typically doesn't go more than 3-4 hours without eating, even during the night. Hence the chubby cheeks. Yet, even with that five hours stretch, I'm still exhausted and feeling totally drugged this morning. The cold fall weather doesn't help.

Trying to Capture a Smile
Kids Taking Pictures
Little Guy keeps asking if he can take pictures of Mystery Baby so as long as he doesn't get right in the baby's face, I've been letting him. Here's what I found when I uploaded the pictures to my computer. I'm not sure what got between the lens and the baby that's causing the reddish tint... they're cute little smiles though. (All pictures taken between 9/30 and 10/5.)
And then he forgot my rule about not getting too close to the baby's face to take a picture.
This cockroach was a kids' meal toy or something while Grandma M was here in August. Buddy's been hiding it around the house and Grandma M taught him how to be tricky about it. So it's never just sitting on the counter, it's peaking out from behind or under something.
And then Little Guy must have requested someone take this picture of him while we went through the Halloween decorations box. Scary!
