Brothers

With Princess Sparkley in bed all day, these two brothers had a lot of fun, just the two of them. They played in the snow a lot and they had all sorts of fun inside under blankets, pretending to be lions, playing trains, etc.

Shoveling

Maintenance went through last night with a snow blower and carved a path along the sidewalks.

B and basically all of our neighbors were outside shoveling out cars all day. A little snow plow went through our parking lot, but just made a skinny, snow plow width clear path and pushed snow behind all the cars. He finally got our spot cleared, and then helped out the neighbors. Some of the people, with corner spots, have more shoveling to do than most. And there's no where to put all the snow. Here's Baby X helping him.

Buddy climbed the mountain of snow in front of our parking spot. This pile got even taller as the day went on. It's probably over 5 feet in some places now.


While Buddy and B were shoveling out the car, Baby X and I went on a little walk down the plowed sidewalks.* The snow was almost as tall as him.


"There it is. See. See." He says this a billion times a day. He'd just spotted our car on the street where B had moved it while they shoveled out our space.


One of the times I went out to take pictures when I came back Baby X was waiting for me saying, "Heyo Mama."

We had to walk down the parking lot in order to go one direction because there isn't a sidewalk (and the parking lot was nicely plowed). See all the snow everyone has to deal with blocking their cars in? We're straight ahead, behind that tree.



There's our cleared spot. The snow is even higher up on that tree now because once our spot was cleared, he helped the guy two doors down clear some snow out.

*PS threw up last night, so she was inside in bed all day watching movies and sleeping.

Snow Day! (in film)

Weather.com is saying near Dulles International Airport the snow is measuring at 32.4 inches. Closer to us, it's saying 26 inches.

Snow Day! (in pictures)

Yesterday was snowy all day, but by bedtime last night, there was just a few inches. So we had a snow day, but just stayed inside in our PJs all day (the boys did at least). Today, we started out cuddled up in blankets and PJs watching movies. (Except Buddy, who was later joined by Daddy, shoveling the sidewalk).

B took the 4+ feet of snow drifts in our backyard and created a sledding hill and a tunnel. The kids loved it!!

Baby X LOVED it outside. PS and B came in but Baby X stayed out with Buddy. I kept asking him if he wanted to come in and he'd yell "Noooooo" and hurry away from me so I couldn't grab him.


He enjoys eating the snow.

Blizzard

This snowstorm is currently forecasted as possibly dropping 20-30 inches of snow. If it drops 30, it'll break a DC Metro record from the 1920s.* A Baltimore record is also close to being broken. This after we almost broke the same records with the big storm before Christmas. It was supposed to start snowing yesterday (Friday) morning and it's not supposed to stop until tonight (Saturday).


It started slow yesterday and by 6:30 PM this is all we had. We already had maybe 3 inches of icy snow from the last snow last weekend.


This is about 11:30 PM.


This is when we got up this morning just before 9 AM.

Last night around midnight B went out and shoveled just the area right in front of our door and our front step. It was about an inch higher than our door and we didn't want it to be a foot taller than our door making our door not open when we got up in the morning. This is opening the door this morning.

And it's still snowing, and supposed to continue all day until tonight.

Snow

We got more snow. It started snowing early Saturday morning and kept going, pretty lightly falling, until evening. We didn't get nearly as much snow as the storm right before Christmas, but it was enough to play in (and to cancel church, which is why I'm sitting here blogging about it in my sweats instead of yelling at everyone to get in the car right now).


Princess Sparkley lounging on a sled. She'd spin in circles every once in awhile. The kids biggest complaint is that in Kansas, our front yard had a small hill to it. Not in Virginia. PS found a tiny dip in the backyard to push Baby X down on the sled. And I spotted Buddy next to our front step trying to slide down a dip that was about a foot long. We'll have to try to figure out where a good sledding hill in Virginia is. Who'd have thought that we'd have a better sledding hill in Kansas?


Buddy was the first one out and shoveled the sidewalk a little bit.


Once Baby X figured out what was going on, he wanted in on the fun. So I convinced PS to go in the backyard, where Baby X is trapped, and play in the snow with him. Here she is giving him a push down the teeny dip in the corner of our yard.


He liked the dip.


Maybe he'll grow up to love shoveling like his dad and his brother.


He thought it was hilarious that I put two pairs of socks on him and two pairs of mittens and two pairs of pants. It was in the 20s!


Buddy got bored with shoveling and moved to the backyard before everyone came in for some hot chocolate.
